The best toy suits the child’s age, sparks curiosity and is safe.
1. Follow the recommended age
The age shown is not about how clever a child is: it reflects safety and development. “Not suitable for children under 3” means the toy contains small parts that could be swallowed.
2. Check the CE marking
Every toy sold in the European Union must carry the CE marking and meet safety standard EN 71. Always read the warnings on the packaging.
3. Choose by type of play
- 0–3 years: cuddly toys, pull-along toys, shape sorters and rattles.
- 3–6 years: building toys, pretend play, first puzzles and crafts.
- 6 years and up: board games, science kits, electronic and strategy toys.
4. Think about everyday use
Washable, sturdy toys that are easy to store last longer. For battery toys, check that the battery compartment is screwed shut.
5. Play together
Playing with children doubles the fun and the learning.
