Start by thinking about where and how often you will ride. A daily commute in town is very different from a weekend ride on forest trails.
1. Choose the type of bike
- City bike: upright position, mudguards and rack – ideal for everyday journeys.
- Mountain bike: suspension fork, knobbly tyres and disc brakes for trails.
- Electric bike: pedal assist to go further with less effort; check the battery range.
- Road bike: light and fast, made for tarmac and long rides.
- Folding bike: perfect if you combine cycling with public transport or have little space.
2. Get the right size
The wrong size causes discomfort and less control. As a rough guide for adult bikes: S 1.55–1.70 m, M 1.70–1.80 m, L 1.80–1.90 m and XL above 1.90 m. Always check the size chart on each product page.
3. Brakes and gears
Disc brakes stop better in the wet and downhill. A few gears are enough on flat ground; for hills, look for a wider range.
4. Think safety
A helmet, front and rear lights, a lock and a bell are essential. Check tyre pressure and brakes before every ride.
