An appliance stays with you for years, so a few checks before buying are worth it.
1. Measure the space… and the way in
Check the height, width and depth available and leave the ventilation gap given in the manual. Measure doors, corridors and the lift too.
2. Choose the right capacity
- Washing machine: 7–8 kg for 2–3 people; 9–10 kg for families.
- Fridge: roughly 100 litres per person as a guide.
- Microwave: 20–25 litres suits most households.
- Air conditioner: the power needed depends on room size, orientation and insulation.
3. Read the energy label
The EU label (A to G) shows estimated annual consumption. A more efficient appliance may cost a little more but lowers your bills throughout its life.
4. Noise and features
In open-plan kitchens or small homes, the noise level (dB) matters. Choose the features you will actually use.
5. Installation
Some appliances, such as split air conditioners, must be installed by a certified professional. Check before you buy.
